Joe Armstrong paints in layered oil with a palette knife. Everything is drawn with that knife with wet paint and that paint is applied very thickly. In one paint stroke, there is often a rainbow of colour. One of Joe’s favourite places is St Ives and he paints it vigorously and vibrantly. Joe has a background in commercial art design: that training and his awareness of colour and colour balancing is part of how he is able to blend seemingly incongruous colours into cohesive, exciting scenes. His St. Ives work is exclusive to Art House Gallery.
